How to Install Exterior Flares | This Old House

The exterior of the house has clapboard siding at the first floor level and shingles at the second level. Tom Silva shows Kevin O’Connor and homeowner Joe how to make a flared detail with the last rows of shingles before the clapboards start. With a crown molding detail also at the transition, the flare will go above it. Tom builds a jig of curved studs to accept the crown on the bottom and to bend the plywood into position above it. The shingles get applied to the bent plywood. This detail goes all the way around the house. #ThisOldHouse #AskTOH SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse About This Old House TV: This Old House is the No. 1 multimedia home enthusiast brand, offering trusted information and expert advice through award-winning television, a highly regarded magazine, and an information-driven website.
