Kevin finds Tom in the backyard of Judith's house meeting with Martin Sanchez, the foundation expert who is preparing to lay new footings for the addition. Out front there is a massive crepe myrtle, a signature ornamental tree in Charleston, but another tree is growing inside of it. Roger meets with arborist Bob Longe to see if the crepe myrtle can be saved. Kevin takes the ferry to Fort Sumter with park ranger Gary Alexander, who gives him a history lesson on Charleston's connection to our nation's Civil War. A house from the 1840's has plenty of fireplaces, and what goes along with that are mantels. Tom visits the local shop where the restoration work on the Single House mantels has begun. The old kitchen house will become a dining room on the first floor and a bedroom on the second, but it's a separate building with no inside connection to the main house. Tom meets builders Mark and Andy, who are figuring out how and where to break through the wall. The windows in the Single House project are original. Kevin finds Jared Lee, master carpenter on the job, starting the process of restoring them. Enjoying full-episodes of This Old House?
