Potbelly pigs, they top out 120, maybe 150 for the larger ones. The pigs that you see at the county fair, those pigs are only six months old and they weigh 250 pounds already. If they were left to reach their adulthood, they would be 1000 pounds. That’s a huge difference; that is the major difference. Then there are some other differences that we see. We have smaller, more erect ears on the pot belly pig. We actually have a little sway to their back, we have shorter legs than the livestock pigs, and they have a straight tail. That’s the major difference, is they have a straight tail that loves to wag when they’re happy. That’s the major difference. There are other differences. One of the things that we’ve discovered is that potbelly pigs are really, really good inside the house. They have very good house manners, but the bigger pigs, their house manners are not quite the same. We contribute that to these farm pigs have been living in outside conditions, crowded conditions, they’re surviving the best they can in these very small contained areas so they’ve lost of their manners that they learned in the wild. The potbelly pig never wants to go to the bathroom in its nest area because the predator could catch him. He always wants to go away from his nest in order for him to relieve himself, where the livestock pigs, they just go to the bathroom because they’re forced to do that. They’re both swine; their anatomy is identical and their medicines that they use would be the same. There are similarities as well to the swine. The level of intelligence is there too; they’re both extremely intelligent.

Hand Mixing vs. Machine Mixing | Make Bread

Watch more How to Make Bread videos: http://ift.tt/2BpO2Yq Okay, so when you're mixing dough by hand versus when you're mixing it by machine the two yield basically different results. A machine has a powerful motor, and so in a professional kitchen the motor is so powerful, that what that motor does is it beats air into the dough and it oxidizes the dough, and therefore it causes the fermentation to occur more quickly. When you're kneading something by hand, you're really not adding the same kind and ditto for when you're using a stand mixer at home. You're really not adding a lot of air, like a professional mixer would be adding into your dough and so you have basically, a slower fermentation process which generally yields more flavor. That's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of mixing dough's by hand, because you're not adding that air. You're not accelerating the fermentation process. You're slowing it down and when you're slowing it down you're just adding more flavor to the dough. Those are some of the main differences between mixing a dough by hand and mixing a dough by machine.

You're going to lie down on the floor or on a yoga mat. You're going to keep your knees in line with your hips, and here we’re just going to target the butt again. Of course, that's what we're here for. You're going to press through those heels again. That's what it's all about in order to get a sexy butt. You're going to press those hips all the way up, squeezing your butt so you can do those heels as you press it up. And then you take it right back down. So you push those hips up. Squeeze that butt and then take it back down. Here, you want to remember that your abs stay nice and tight, the belly button stays pulled to the spine, so there’s no pressure in that lower back when you press the hips. You really just want all of that focus to be in the glutes. You can do these 10 to 12 reps here. You can also hold it up here for 10 seconds and then continue your reps. The isometric hold right here will really get deep into those glutes and then you’ll start to feel the burning sensation of your muscles really working. You can also do, with this glute bridge, you can do a whole bunch of different things. You can do a single-leg glute bridge. You can take one leg out and just bring your hips down . And this will really target one side, and you can do the other side same way. And, yep. That’s how you do a glute bridge for a sexy butt.

That makes them extremely intelligent. They have the intellect of a two to three-year-old child. They have emotions. They can identify who they belong to and other people in the family. We can change the routine on them just like that, and maybe in a day or two, maybe they’ll be confused the first day. Let’s say you move the furniture around or you move into a new home; at first they’re quite upset, just like we are until we get our routine down, but once they establish that routine, they know exactly what time it is, and they’ll wake you up right on time every day. One of the things about pigs that you’ll discover when you own one is that they love to learn. In order to keep them really stimulated and happy, they want to be learning all the time. They’ll focus on you constantly just to learn that next trick. They can be taught to identify their colors, to identify shapes. All those little flash cards you get for your kindergartener, they’ll learn. They're very, very smart and they’re fun to be with.

General contractor Tom Silva finishes up the last of the structural work – replacing an undersized and partially rotted old post in the kitchen. Window restoration specialist Alison Hardy reinstalls the restored historic window sashes in the dining room, adding spring-action hardware and weatherstripping to make them more efficient. In the garage, host Kevin O’Connor finds electrician Allen Gallant upgrading the electrical service to 100 amps so it can function as a workshop. Allen installs a system of metallic tubing as conduit on the inside of the building, and outside, brings the wires to the garage via a fishing system controlled by foot pedals for safety. In the study, Tom shows Kevin how he’s removing the more modern narrow strip flooring to reveal the more historic wide pine boards underneath. With a light sanding and clear finish, the two hundred year old patina will stay intact.

I'm the author of "Secrets, Tips and Tricks of a Powerful Memory," and I'd like to discuss the question of what happens when something is on the tip of your tongue. It happens to all of us. I'm going to divide this answer into two parts: One is for those things that you never properly memorized, things you never applied any mnemonic system, you never applied a system at all. It's just something you may have read sometime or a song you might have heard or a picture you may have seen. And what's happening is there's a lot of scientific literature about it, indeed. It's the TOT - tip of tongue syndrome - and you can find thousands and thousands of pages about it. Technically what's happening, I can't tell you. But the bottom line what's happening is you didn't really know it well to begin with as a rule. What can you do about it? All kinds of theories, I can only suggest one. If something is on the tip of your tongue, and you can't spit it out, back away from it, relax a little bit. Another theory that you're going to hear about is clench your left fist. Some scientists will say that what that does is stimulate some neurons that are going left wrist to the right side of the brain and all of that material that I'm not really sure about: I'm not a scientist. But I do think that the very act of clenching your fist takes your mind away of that terribly troubling sense of the tip of tongue syndrome and may relieve it. Give it a try. See what works for you.

Cut the 1x4” boards to a desired rough length using a miter saw. 2. Lay out the boards for the front, back, and bottom of one side. Use the fourth piece to determine the angle for the top of the box. Mark the boards at a desired angle and cut it using the miter saw. 3. Repeat this process for the other side of the box. 4. Cut the stiles and rails for the front of the box at the desired length. 5. Using the table saw, cut dados along the perimeters of the side of the stiles receiving the panel and cut rabbets into the ½” plywood for the sides and front of the box. Keep the panel flush with the backs of the stiles and rails. Be careful to not cut the dados all the way through each board. 6. Cut the panels to size. The ones on the side should be at the same angle as the stiles. 7. Use the router to cut the rabbet on all the panels. 8. Assemble the sides using pocket screws and wood glue. Slide the panels in before securing the fourth stile. 9. Fill the pocket holes using plugs and the wood glue. 10. Sand all the pieces of the toy box. 11. Cut a rabbet using the table saw on the back of the two sides of the toy box. 12. Use the router to add a curve to the front edge of both sides of the box. Sand the sides. 13. Add a curve to the front of the box. Do this by putting a nail at the center of the desired arch, hold a scrap piece of wood tight to the bottom front corners, and trace the curve with a pencil. Cut it out using a jigsaw. 14. Add a cleat to the bottom of the front and sides of the box to hold the bottom of the box in place. 15. Cut a dado in the front, back, and bottom of the box to accept a divider. 16. Assemble the rest of the box using more pocket screws and wood glue. 17. Glue the bottom panel for the box onto the cleat, then secure it with brad nails. 18. Repeat the process for the back of the box. 19. Cut the center divider to width. 20. Slide the center divider into the dados in the front and back of the box. 21. Transfer measurements from the sides of the box to the center divider and cut it parallel to the sides using the jigsaw. The height should be slightly shorter than the side panels by about an inch. 22. Nail the center divider to the back of the box. 23. Cut a top shelf for the box to width and length. Round it with the router and sand. Screw it to the top of the box using pocket screws. They're more like children, they need to be nurtured, they need to be stimulated. They need to be loved and they like to be tucked in at night and read to, they love music. They make excellent pets for some but you do need to do your homework first. You need to be sure that your home is properly zoned for it, that you own your home. They really make a better pet if they're given the right environment, and sometimes that environment includes a space for them in your home, a space for them in your yard. Make sure that they're safe in your yard. There are predators, dogs are predators to a pot-bellied pig so you make sure that they're safe outdoors, they have plenty of room. They make a really good pet because they are so much a companion to you. They're very meticulous and clean so it makes it very easy to have them as a pet in your house. Pot-bellied pigs are also able to be therapy animals, they are very good going into a home for the elderly, children hospital, that kind of thing. They really are very, very good but they're also therapy for us, the owner, and that is really very important, it's a very healing type of animal to have.

As a parent you never want to think your child will be rejected from anything. You want everyone to care and love your child as much as you do, but in the reality that's not always what happens. When a child is rejected or feels rejected it can feel terrible to you as well. So the first thing you want to do is monitor your own reaction when you hear or feel that your child is rejected. So you are going to be able to be there for your child. The next thing is you want to make sure to focus on two different things: one is how your child feels the other thing is what exactly happened to cause that feeling of rejection. So the first thing is talk to your child and just empathize with them about how they are feeling and show them that you understand and you are there to listen and support them. Don't pretend or assume that you know how they feel; you want to get them to label it, talk about it and really understand their feelings. Then you want to focus on what happened and get to hear a little bit of the story. Again, first listening to your child tell the story without passing any judgment or giving any reassurance or criticism to either side depending on what the situation was. And then you can go and problem solve and think through what happened and why and what to do to change it or prevent it in the future. The one thing you do not want to do is go swoop in right away and fix it for your child. First, you want to find out what happened and then see what needs to be done. A very young child of course needs a parent to help protect them and take care of them and go to other adults in that child's world to make sure they know what to do to keep that child safe. But when you are getting to the age of being an elementary school, middle school child, certainly a junior and a high school age child then you want to help that child deal with the rejection. It's not enough to just say, "But I love you no matter what." Kids hopefully know that from everything you've already done. It's what to do when someone else doesn't have that unconditional love for them. So you want to build their self-esteem, let them understand what they are good at, make them feel positive about themselves, not that you are just going to just go fix and take care of whatever it was that made them feel that way. Rejection, unfortunately, is one of those hard tough learning situations. One thing the kids sometimes do is they catastrophize and they globalize what happens, so one rejection turns into nobody likes me, everybody hates me, it's always this way. And you want to make sure to keep it in perspective for your child as you're problem solving and helping them understand the reality of the situation, as well as what their real strengths are and how to weather any rejection. Unfortunately, as a parent, it's hard to see your child rejected but eventually everyone has to learn how to manage and cope with the fact that sometimes things are not going to go the way they want and that's a great lesson for you to teach your child.

You need a space for the pig. The space should be, if it’s a youngster, a very small area; maybe four feet by eight feet is a small area where it has a litter box, a bed area, preferably a bed, like a crate, that’s covered. It can even be a corrugated box upside down with the door carved into it and lots of blankets inside of it so that it can get away and likes to be in these little spaces. That’s when you first bring a pig home. There are also outside area. You need to make sure your yard is secure, that there is fencing or some kind of containment for them; outside pen area. It should be made by the time that they are a year old. The pen area needs to be a secured fencing; it needs to have a little doghouse of some kind in there. It needs to have a pool for water source so that they can cool their selves down in the summer time. They need shade in their outside space, they need water. That’s about it for the outside area. That outside area should not be situated under any kind of trees that would be producing food or nuts; they don’t need any more food. You want to be securing your cabinets and you want to make sure that below the countertops there is no food sources. This eliminates the pig getting into things, and all the food is putting up so that it will not get into things. Pigs are very food motivated and we don’t want them to get any food that isn’t good for them. In your other areas of the house, you should have no clutter. If you have clutter around, magazine, video tapes, that type of thing, they all need to be picked up so that they don’t get into anything. They are curious about things and their nesters, so they will get into magazines and root them up, that type of thing, so be careful of your homework. When preparing your home, you should realize that pigs should not do stairs. Some of them are capable of doing stairs but they shouldn’t be doing them. You want to ramp areas that they have to maneuver, so like a porch going out to the backyard; you need a ramp. If you have an upstairs, don’t worry about the pig going up there, he should stay on the first floor.

Run the wire through a conduit and connect it to the garage door opener motor. 10. On the outside of the garage, mount the wireless keypad using the screw gun. 11. Mount the electric eyes about 6” from the floor on the inside of the garage. 12. Plug the motor into an outlet and turn the power back on. How to Cut Down a Dangerous Tree

Removing a large tree with a dangerous lean is only recommended for a certified arborist with the correct tools and safety equipment. 2. Put on all safety gear and use a bucket truck to reach the highest point in the tree. 3. Use the chainsaw to cut off the smaller branches. 4. Put the smaller branches into a wood chipper. 5. Once the small branches are out of the way, wrap a rope around the tree, and then tie off sections of the large branches one at a time. Cut the large branches and use the rope to safely guide them towards the ground. 6. Once all the branches have been removed, cut the trunk in small sections and push them safely to the ground. Towards the top of the tree, the sections can be 3’-4’, but as you get closer to the ground, cut the sections about 16”-18”. 7. Once the tree has been cut down to a manageable size, tie the rope from the top of the tree to the base of something else in the direction the tree should fall. 8. Cut a wedge section out of about ⅓ of the base of the tree in the direction the tree should fall. 9. Cut straight back into the tree from the other side of the wedge and the tree should fall. 10. Buck the trunk into 16”-18” pieces that can be used for firewood. Only cut about ⅔” down, then rotate the trunk and cut from the other side to avoid damaging the chainsaw. How to Choose a Stud Finder

There are several ways to locate studs in the wall- both low tech and high tech. 2. Use your knuckle against the wall to feel for a stud. If you hit a stud, the knock will feel more solid and sound slightly higher pitched. 3. Look for clues in the wall. Look for patched nail holes in baseboard trim, chair rails, or crown molding, since the trim was probably nailed to the studs. Use a small drill bit just above the baseboard to see if there’s a stud behind the wall or not. 4. Turn off the power at the electrical panel and check next to an outlet or light switch. Unscrew the cover plate and slide the screwdriver along the sides of the electrical box to see where it was mounted. Once that stud has been located, measure 16” or 24” on center from the stud to identify subsequent studs. 5. Purchase a magnetic stud finder. Slide it along the wall up and down and it will stick to any nails or screws that attach the drywall to the studs. 6. Purchase a digital stud finder. Slide it along the wall and the light will indicate when a stud has been located. 7. Another digital stud finder can indicate the width of a stud. I'm going to go with no; it's not okay in the classroom. I know a lot of us communicate with sarcasm and we think it's witty or it's funny or it's creating rapport with the students, but the truth is sarcasm always has within it a bite, it's always meant to inflict a little bit of uh at that person that it's directed at. We never know how that bite is going to land on the student who is the recipient of the sarcastic remark and when I started teaching a used a lot of sarcasm in the classroom, I was a relatively sarcastic person, and I relied on it for humor. When I was teaching high school I thought it was okay, my kids could handle it, but eventually I said just the wrong thing to just the wrong person at just the wrong time, and that student was so deeply offended that he cut my class for a week afterwards. We never know how it's landing with a student, so it's always better to error on the side of what it's best for students, and what is best for students is genuine communication with them from the heart and not from a place of sarcasm. That doesn't mean that we can’t be having fun with our students or being witty, but there's a difference between wit and sarcasm. Wit doesn't necessarily intend to harm, whereas sarcasm always has that intention behind it on some level even if it's not malicious on some level. So, to be safe I would say no sarcasm in the classroom.

I highly recommend that all pigs travel all of their life in a travel carrier that is plastic-molded, it is better than the wire crates because they don’t want to see the movement of the traffic outside. What you want to do is you want to have a padding on your travel crate. Thank you very much Periwinkle, that was very good; something that will keep them from sleeping that fits very tightly. If you’re going on a long trip with a pig, you might want to put corrugated box on the bottom of the pen, something nice and thick so that if they urinate on it, it will be in here instead of all over the pig. Go in your pen, go in your crate. That’s a good girl. A couple of treats doesn’t hurt, and securely lock the crate down, and then you can pick … you need to put her in the crate in your home, at her nest where she’s most comfortable. Then you can pick up the crate and carry it to the car. If they’re too big to carry the crate, what you need to do is put it on some sort of roller, like even the wagon or a cart, something of that nature, so that it wheels out to the car, and then pick it up and put it into the car. That’s the safest way to transport your pig. The crate needs to be large enough so that the pig can turn around in it. Are you turned around Periwinkle? She’s not, but she can turn around in her crate. If you’re having a hard time getting the pig in a crate, you can maneuver the crate so it’s up against a wall. You narrow your options so that the pig only can go forward into the crate. You can use a board. This small sample is a sorting; a handle on it, a piece of board, solid, and that looks like a wall to them. When you put this, it should be more like two feet by three feet. When you put this in their vision, you can make them go into the crate with that. When you’re in the car and you’re traveling, you should turn a nice comfortable music, nice soothing music is best for them because they like to listen to music but they also do not want to hear any arguing from anybody in the car. No loud noises, no boom-boom music, so that everything is very comfortable. There’s one more thing. When you’re traveling with them and if the pig is very anxious, it wouldn’t hurt to use something like Rescue Remedy from Bach, it’s a flower formula, it’s totally harmless. It wouldn’t hurt if you took a little of this as well. This it works very good, just gives them a relaxed environment. I don’t recommend any type of types of drugs like Valium, things like that that normally dogs and cats might be given by the veterinarian. When you’re traveling, sometimes they’ll become very anxious, so a lightweight blanket over the crate is very beneficial for them. A blanket is always a good thing to add, just to keep them occupied and also if they want to go to sleep, and keeps them from slipping a little bit.

What's important to do first is to identify what does trigger you to want to drink. People are triggered for different reasons. In the 12 step traditions in AA for instance, the AA groups will refer to people, places and things as triggers and you should avoid people, places and things that remind you of drinking and trigger your drinking. So in other words, not to be around those people you used to drink with or to be around people drinking. In other words, if you're trying to avoid drinking, it's not wise to be hanging out at a bar. Often, people need to really stay away from parties or events where there's alcohol served for some time. When we were talking about avoiding places, sometimes people are triggered just by walking by a liquor store and that is sometimes hard to avoid, sometimes you have to walk or drive by a liquor store, you can't control that all the time. But the big thing is things. What are things that trigger you? Again, that's very individual for people so how do you help people avoid those things or deal with them? Again, the easy thing is as best you can is to avoid those triggers. However, as I said before, sometimes that's just not possible. Sometimes you have a work function that you have to be there for, where they may be alcohol so what you need to do is through help, through support is learn different strategies to deal with those triggers because just remember, just because you feel triggered that doesn't mean that you have to drink. So what can you do to avoid those things or to deal with your triggers? There are many ways to do that but again, you have to go and talk to other people, get advice from other people who have been through it, go talk to a professional and figure out different strategies. There's real strategies for it that are behavioral and cognitive that can help you deal with the trigger when you feel it, when you can't just avoid the situation that is going to trigger you.

Chisel out the existing mortar down to about ¾”. Start with all the head joints before moving to the bed joints. 2. Clean out any excess mortar with the clean out tool and the brush. 3. Dip the brush in some water and dampen the brick. 4. Put the mortar mix into a bucket and slowly add water. Mix with the trowel until the mortar has an oatmeal consistency. 5. Put a small amount of mortar onto the finish trowel or the hawk, whichever is more comfortable. Hold the trowel up the joint, then push the mortar in using the flat joiner. Be careful to not get any mortar onto the face of the brick. 6. Use the dry brush to clean off excess mortar. How to Replace a Steam Radiator

Click here to SUBSCRIBE to the official This Old House YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thisoldhouse Time: 4 hours Cost: $100 and up Skill Level: Moderate Tools List for Replacing a Steam Radiator: 2 pipe wrenches Pipe (for persuasion) Spud wrench Shopping List: Replacement radiator Hand valve Spud Pipe dope Single strand wicking Steps: 1. Switch off the steam boiler to prevent risk of scalding. 2. Loosen the nut holding the radiator. Make sure the wrench is biting the nut in three different corners to prevent the nut from deforming. 3. Carefully remove the old radiator. 4. (Optional): To replace the hand valve, use one wrench to bite the pipe and one wrench to bite the valve. Move in opposite directions to loosen. This step may require a pipe for persuasion. 5. (Optional): To replace the spud, insert the spud wrench to loosen, then remove. 6. Make all the necessary connections with the wrench: floor to hand valve, hand valve to spud. Apply the pipe dope and the wicking to each thread to ensure a secure connection. The hand valve should be parallel to the floor in order to fit back into the radiator. 7. Carefully fit the new radiator into place and connect it with pipe dope and the wrench. 8. Open the hand valve and turn the boiler back on. Resources: Richard used an existing radiator leftover in the homeowner’s house, but a replacement radiator could be bought at plumbing supply stores or salvage yards. The other tools for this project, including the hand valve, pipe wrenches, and a spud wrench can be purchased from a plumbing supply store. First of all, you want to figure out what fear is. Is your child scared of the noise that the potty makes? Is your child scared of the water in the potty? Or is your child simply uncomfortable and feels like he's going to fall in the potty? Those are common fears that many parents deal with. If your child is scared of the noise that the potty makes, then you can tape the flusher so it doesn't flush when he's in there. Or you can remove all the water from the potty so that it doesn't make a noise when he goes pee. If your child is scared of the water or scared of getting splashed, again you can drain the toilet so that there isn't any water in the toilet, or you can put toilet paper over the water so as to buffer the sound. Or, believe it or not, I had one child who wore goggles because he was afraid of being splashed in the face. So whatever the fear may be, address that so that your child is willing to use the potty. If your child is scared of falling into the potty, make sure you get a potty seat that fits on top of the toilet. This will make the hole smaller and is comfortable so that your child is stable. Also, you can provide a step for his feet to rest upon so that his feet aren't dangling. Again, he can feel stable and more comfortable while he's sitting on the potty. Even if your child is scared of the potty, you can resolve the issue so that he can ultimately be potty trained.
