How to Paint Old Wood Trim with Varnish on It | Ask This Old House

Start by protecting the floors and walls with painter’s tape. Mauro likes to use a wider masking tape on the floor and then cover that with the drop cloth to ensure a clean cutting edge. 2. Tape the walls using regular painter’s tape. If you’re also painting the walls, then don’t worry about taping since the spillover can be covered up with the new paint. 3. Lightly sand all the wood trim using a 220 grit sandpaper. This should help break up the varnish and give the primer a solid base to adhere to. 4. Vacuum up as much of the dust from sanding as possible. Then, wipe down each surface with a tack cloth to ensure no dust was left behind. 5. Prime all the surfaces using the bonding primer and a paint brush. Start by cutting the edges of the trim and then paint the flat surfaces. 6. Allow the primer to dry. Then, repeat this process with the latex paint. 7. Apply 2-3 coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next one. Resources: Mauro explained that in rooms with wood trim that has a finish applied to it, it’s helpful to lightly sand the surface using 220 grit sandpaper to give the paint more to adhere to. Mauro decided to do two coats of primer in this case, since he thought it was more important to ensure a strong, even base for the paint.  The homeowner had already purchased paint for the room, so Mauro finished the room using the same paint. Well, this is within the autism spectrum disorder and it is becoming a very interesting diagnosis that's talked about in media, etcetera, etcetera, because these children are very unusual in that they can function a lot like regular children in the sense that their speech and language is not delayed. They may have difficulty with social language pragmatics, which means being on topic. They also have normal IQ, so they may actually be very advanced in their particular intelligence. So cognitively they can be mainstreamed and these kids are often not diagnosed until much later because their issue is picking up on social queues at times or being very concrete in their thinking, or having particular interests and being what maybe previously was called the nerdy kid because they will know everything about the solar system or dinosaurs or have particular areas that they were actually teaching other children about because they have so much knowledge in that particular area, but they're also at risk for a certain kind of being teased or being bullied because they tend to be very concrete and they don't get some jokes and kids can be cruel. So, I think it's important to understand children who have the special gift but also special challenges because they tend to be very concrete and they don't get it. They don't pick up on social nuances and little subtle differences that make communication easier. Children with Asperger also have multi-coordination issues, often called the clumsy, klutzy children. Difficulty with riding bicycle or dribbling a basketball, and they have difficulty with team sports for that reason. They can however do better with swimming and golf or yoga or individual dance therapy for example, but multi-coordination and the biggest pieces that's social referencing that is a challenge for Asperger’s, and yet because of the intelligence and they're wanting to make friends, they would like to engage and like a high-functioning child with autism, kids with Asperger's have the intention and want to communicate and have difficulty with, and not just making friends but sometimes keeping friends, and that puts them at a little higher risk for other behavioral issues, things like depression, for example, or being unusually sensitive and emotional, but that can work in both ways for them because they can be very sensitive in some areas, and some areas they just don't get it, so it is a challenge but it is an unusual and important diagnosis because we can really help a lot of children in getting beyond just the label but what that child particularly needs.

Attach the support brackets to the center of the cedar boards using the drill driver and screws. There should be two boards of the same length stacked one on top of the other to reach the 15” height. 2. Insert the sides into the corner brackets. Secure them with the drill driver. 3. Insert the plastic cover into all four corners. 4. Prep the location in the yard for the garden bed. Be sure the area gets plenty of sunlight. Cut away any grass and rake out the soil to ensure a smooth, even base. 5. Put the frame of the bed in place and check it for level. Fill in any low spots with soil until the bed is level. 6. Put a layer of landscape fabric along the bottom of the inside of the garden bed to keep out weeds. 7. Pour the soil into the garden bed on top of the landscape fabric. Even it out with a rake. 8. When the weather is warm enough, plant the seedlings in the bed. How to Control Smart Lighting | Ask This Old House

Ross explains a couple of different ways to create a smart lighting configuration in a home. 2. Ross starts by discussing smart light switches, which can be used to replace old, standard switches. Then, all the smarts of the lighting configuration are embedded in the switch itself and can be used with any lighting fixtures. Ross does warn, however, that this requires wiring the new switch, which should be done by an electrician. 3. A simpler option is to purchase smart bulbs, which require no wiring whatsoever. Simply unscrew the old bulb and screw the new, smart one in. These will only take advantage of their smart features IF the light switch at the wall remains in the on position. 4. A hybrid option is to use a wireless remote. The mounting bracket locks onto the light switch, which keeps it in the on position and prevents it from being turned off, and the wireless remote can be pushed on/off or dialed for dimming capabilities. Then, the smart bulbs can still be controlled by the app and it’s less likely they’ll be powered off. Ross does warn that in this case, power is constantly running to the light fixtures. He suggests caution when changing out the lightbulbs. This is called fat graphing or fat transfer procedure. A common question I am asked in my practice is where does this fat come from and this in part determines weather or not someone is a candidate for this type of procedure. In order to use fat in order to increase the volume of someones buttocks a patient needs to have sufficient volume of  fat somewhere else. So extremely skinny patients are not candidates for a buttock augmentation. Um, and there are other ways to augment the butt however the only I believe is the safe way is by using fat. There for in truly skinny patients who do not have a lot of excess fat elsewhere um, they are not great candidates for this procedure. Patients who have a least a mild moderate amount of fat in other places are good candidates and we can take fat from these other places. Which include the lower abdomen, the upper abdomen, the flanks, the back, the arms, the thighs, the lateral thighs, generally any place where fat exists and we can wsah that fat and process it and put it into syringe's and then inject it into the patients buttock in order to increase a size and volume. So, in terms of answering the question where does the fat come from it comes from a patients own body generally it comes from the areas that we commonly prefer liposuction on which include abdomen, flanks, upper back, arms and legs.

Ensure that the washing machine is level so it doesn’t bounce around during cycles. Most have adjustable feet that can be tightened or loosened to reach the appropriate height. 2. There are filters at the end of the washing machines hoses at the back of the washer. If there’s ever a decrease in water pressure in the machine, he suggests shutting off the water and unscrewing those hoses to check the filters to see if they’re clogged. 3. Since rubber hoses are prone to bursting, Richard recommends using a stainless steel braided washing machine hose. 4. Richard also highly recommends taking advantage of a washing machine valve, which can be installed near the water supply for the washing machine and can control water flow to the machine. That way, if the hoses were ever to fail, they wouldn’t be under full water pressure and there would be an easy control point to diagnose any issues.
